Playing the Part at the Olympic Training Center

Today’s theme should be something about – playing the part. Fitting in. Taking on the look. Walking the walk. Wheeling the wheel.

As I spend more time here at the training center, my body takes on the form of an Olympic Athlete. I came here at about 105 lbs. I’m now at 97. My goal is to get under 95. I eat 400 calories for breakfast, approximately 400-500 over the day, and approximately 500 at night for dinner (you gotta splurge sometime). I’ve given up sweets. My muscles are beginning to be very defined. When I wheel out onto the track, I truly feel a though I LOOK like I belong here. Me, in the mix of all of the other ridiculous bodies that are necessarily too thin to be normal, to thick to be normal, to tall to be normal. Around here is really the only place where – we look normal.

The unspoken understanding here is that you’ll have an incredibly fit appearing body. You’ll have beautiful hair tucked neatly into a perky ponytail. You’ll have a clear complexion and wear a touch of makeup for color. But not really eye make-up – it runs when you work out. You’ll sport Nike, Addidas, or USA garb, but you can’t look like you’re trying to hard to do it. But it’ll be neat. You’ve just worked out all day but you looked very fashionably disheveled. This is the expectation.

Nice post Cheri! I love the fashionably disheveled look. I am usually sporting the 'really' disheveled look. As an engineer, no one thinks you're smart if you look too put together. :)

BTW I can't believe you only eat < 1500 calories a day and do all that working out!!!! I think I've almost eaten that much already and it's only noon! I swear I heard once that Olympic athletes eat 10k calories a day when they are training. (and of course I got very jealous). Is that a major exaggeration, or does it depend on the sport and your body type?
